In this assignment, we were given the job to use a tripod and find an open area in or around the school. We then set up our tripod and took a picture of our location. Next, we used the self-timer to take multiple pictures of us in different areas, with different poses in the frame of our camera. We then took all of our photos to photoshop and merged them together. In order to merge them together, we had to "lasso" select ourselves within the photo and layer mask to show ourselves popping up in different areas. Below are my two images: During this assignment I learned many things. First, I used a tripod for the first time and learned how to set it up/attach the camera. Next, I learned how to use the self-timer on my camera so I could take the photos of myself. I also learned how to layer mask and thought it was really cool that we could use the paint brush tool to clean up the edges of our masking. I had a little bit of trouble in my first picture with shadows created from the sun coming through the windows, but I was able to fix it in order for myself to look normal within the picture. Overall, I had a lot of fun with this assignment and learned a lot more about photoshop and how to use new tools.

In this assignment, we again chose a theme for the week and then went out and shot photographs that lie within the theme chosen. This week I chose "Animals". Therefore, I took photographs of my cat in different elements; playing with water, playing in his cat tunnel, playing with toys, and lying around. I worked on capturing different angles and activities so all of my photos were not the same. Below is my best work! NO PHOTOSHOP EDIT Technical Elements: Aperture: f4.5 Shutter Speed: 1/60 ISO: 200 Overall, I think this assignment was the hardest for me to do so far. I had a hard time getting my cat up and moving because he is lazy, but once he started moving, it was hard to capture him in action before he would move on to something else. Although, I did enjoy shooting the photos because I enjoyed the challenge and had fun playing with my cat and trying to take visually appealing pictures. I also had a little trouble to start because I challenged myself to shoot more in manual which was hard when I had to change exposure quickly for the next shot. Overall. I enjoyed how my photos turned out.
In this assignment, we were asked to go out within the school or school campus and take photos that would eventually be turned into Panorama photographs. We were told to take at least 3 photos of a scene where 1/3 of each photo overlapped. We than took our photos to photoshop and chose automate->photo-merge. From there, photoshop merged our photos together to create one panoramic view consisting of the photographs we took. Below are my finalized panoramas. During this assignment I learned many things. I had only ever used my iphone for panoramas so I had no clue you could create one from individual photographs. I found it hard to figure out where the 1/3 overlap was, but eventually began to get the hang of it as a shot more and more photos. I also learned how to merge photos within photoshop and how to "fill" the panorama if the edges are uneven. Overall, this assignment was one that I learned a lot from and it continued to help me become more comfortable with photoshop.
In this assignment, I chose to shoot photos that pertain to the Nature category. We all chose an individual category and shot photos that would match or fall under your chosen classification. Since the flowers and trees have began to bloom, I went out and shot photos of the newly blooming flowers and the sun behind the trees. I chose to focus on proper lighting and dramatic lighting as well as depth of field. Below are my best photos! The technical elements are as follows: Aperture: 13.0 Shutter Speed: 1/640 ISO: 100 Overall, I really liked the resulting photos from this assignment. I got really lucky and had a really bright, sunny day to shoot which helped me to create dramatic lighting and cool shadows with the leaves. I had a problem with my view finder being blurry to start, but I was eventually able to figure it out and continue to shoot. In my top photo, I really worked on setting the sun on a thirds line to make it a focal point, but also creating different colors on the leaves because of the shadows/light. Overall, I enjoyed shooting nature pictures :)
In this assignment we were given the task to reconfigure a picture from our school and place it out of it's normal context. That being said, we chose a place in the school and took a photo. We then chose a theme to make the area of the school into something we have never seen before, or something that you wouldn't expect to see in that area of the school. We used photoshop to place the new scene or new characters into our school photo. I chose the third floor of our school and an incredibles theme for my picture. Below is the before and after: This assignment helped me become more comfortable with photoshop and allowed me to do some exploring on my own. I found it really easy to copy, paste, and transform the character into my photo. Adding the shadow was a little more challenging because I had to zoom in so close and use a 1-5 pixel brush (really small) to make the shadow black. Once I finished with the characters, I was able to play around with filters and learned a little about lighting adjustments and how to use spotlights. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to place more than one spotlight so I chose to learn about and use the lens flare to create the bright light. Overall, I had a lot of fun with this assignment.
For this assignment we were given a picture of a car in what looks like a show room. Our job was to slightly change the levels of the color in the image and retouch the photo in order to eliminate some of the white reflective spots on the hood of the car. We did this using the clone stamping tool in photoshop. We also used a selection tool to help us re-paint the background to black and tinted the windshield. Both the original car and retouched car are below. In this assignment I learned a lot more about photoshop. First, I learned the importance of layers as if you are on the wrong layer, the clone stamping tool did not work properly and just showed up white. I also learned how to properly use the quick selection tool and how to move the "marching ants" in and out using the + and - selections. I has some trouble figuring out how to get my text white, but was able to get help and understand the multiple ways you can select text color. Overall, this assignment helped me become more comfortable with photoshop as a whole.
For this assignment we chose from a list multiple categories and shot 40-50 photos that lie within the boundaries of the category we chose. This week, I chose Macro category, meaning close up photographs to show the detail of my subject. For many of my photos, I worked on getting a larger aperture opening to show a short depth of field and really focus on my main subject. Below are my best photos! This photo's technical elements are as follows: Shutter speed: 1/30 Aperture: f4.0 ISO: 360 Overall I enjoyed this macro assignment. I liked being able to capture up close because of how nicely the details of my subject came out in each picture. I learned a lot about dealing with wind and trying to get a nice aperture length, but also have to work with a real fast shutter speed so the wind didn't make my photos blurry. I had some trouble with my camera at first because it doesn't always like when I get really close to my subject, so I had to work around those issues. Overall, I really like these photographs, I just wish there would've been more flowers and it would've been a nicer day because it was pretty dark and overcast.
In this assignment, we were asked to choose a category and take pictures that would fall into your chosen category. For this assignment, I chose to take photos of an event, specifically the Easter brunch being held at my house. Our goal was to take between 40-50 picture and choose our best ones (good composition, lighting, exposure, etc) and blog them. Below are photos from the event, including an Easter egg hunt, fun with bubbles, and decorations. This photos technical elements are as follows: Aperture-f/4.5 Shutter Speed- 1/2500 ISO- 400 In this photo, I did not do any editing as I thought the picture looked best in its original form. Overall, I had a really fun time shooting this assignment. I found that it was extremely hard to capture pictures with the kids and bubbles in one. This was because the bubbles did not last long (popped easily) and the kids moved around very quickly. It was also hard to get the perfect angle because I only had a split second before the kids were moving again. Although, I was able to stage a few of the images which made it a little easier to capture a good photo.
In this assignment, we were given step by step directions to follow in forming an original picture of us into a pop art piece. We first changed the pixels on our original picture and turned it black and white, this made our photo appear more cartoon-ish. We then created a blank canvas and placed our new black and white picture in each corner (4 pictures total). Lastly, we changed the color of each photo to make it appear as if it were pop art. Attached below our both of my Pop Art pictures. Throughout this assignment I learned a lot about how to navigate the photoshop application. Specifically, I learned where to go in order to resize my canvas by going to the image button in the top left corner and pressing canvas size. I also learned how photoshop works in terms of creating your photo within layers. I didn't realize you could edit individual layers at once, I originally thought if you did an edit, the whole picture would be affected.
For my first shooting photo shooting assignment I am going to focus on people and an event. I am hoping to capture the personality of people at an Easter event with my family on Sunday. Some photographs that I found as inspiration online are below: I think these are good examples of capturing people at an event and also two good examples of portrait photography. I enjoy that these photos focus on the personality of the kids as they search for eggs. I love all the colors in each photo and how they make the subject the focal point. I am excited to try this on my own!
